Black Hill Primary school embraces the use of Digital Technologies to foster students’ creativity, critical thinking and communication.

We use a variety of devices and modes to support all areas of our curriculum and aim to build safe and responsible ‘digital citizens’ in our school.

There is no specifically dedicated time to Digital Technologies as it is integrated into other curriculum areas in a classroom context.

Visual Arts

The Visual Arts Program at Black Hill Primary School is valued and supported by the whole school community. We believe that all students are successful artists and endeavour to encourage, inspire and celebrate their learning through experiences within the Art Room.

Students develop knowledge, skills, techniques and processes throughout the year and use a variety of materials to explore different forms, styles and contexts. Students have opportunities to engage in drawing, painting, threads and textiles, modelling, construction, printing, collage and mixed media. The creativity, imagination and individuality of our students is furthermore showcased through our highly anticipated Arts Week bi-annual event.

At Black Hill Primary School, students have many opportunities to participate in all aspects of the Performing Arts.

Classes have weekly lessons and explore the subject areas of Music, Dance and Drama over a two year curriculum cycle. Students explore all aspects of music through singing, games, theory and playing a variety of instruments.

Swimming Program

Black Hill Primary School considers swimming to be an essential part of our Health and Physical Education Program.

Students in Years 1 and 2 take part in a water safety program in December each year and Year 3-6 students take part in a two week intensive swimming program each year.

Health & Physical Education

The Physical Education program at Black Hill Primary School aims to inspire students to be involved in physical activities that develop both individual and team skills, as well as promote healthy attitudes and habits.

A key learning area in Physical Education is the development, understanding and application of the Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) including run, leap, throw, catch, kick, strike, punt, vertical jump, dodge and bounce.

In the early years these FMS are broken down into stages, and drills are used to teach correct technique, in the later years these skills are refined through application under pressure in sport specific games and activities.
