At Black Hill Primary School, students have many opportunities to participate in all aspects of the Performing Arts.
Classes have weekly lessons and explore the subject areas of Music, Dance and Drama over a two year curriculum cycle. Students explore all aspects of music through singing, games, theory and playing a variety of instruments. They engage in safe dance practices and learn to choreograph their own dance routines and build confidence performing for others. Students also learn to use their voice and body to tell stories and create characters in Drama.
Black Hill Primary School has a bi-annual concert which encourages all students’ involvement in rehearsals and the creative process, culminating in a two night performance at Wendouree Centre for Performing Arts.
In the alternating year, we explore and celebrate all areas of Visual and Performing Arts during Arts Week.
In the past, Black Hill Primary School Senior students have been involved in extra-curricular events such as the Begonia Parade, State Schools Spectacular and the Wakakirri Story Dance Challenge.
Instrumental music lessons in piano, violin and guitar are independently offered at our school and more information can be accessed via our school office staff.
The Performing Arts are interwoven into so many aspects of society and exposure to the arts is critical to a child’s creativity. Our aim at Black Hill is to empower students, so their love of the arts can blossom and thrive.
“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time” – Thomas Merton
