At Black Hill Primary School, we believe that Mathematics is an integral part of our daily lives. We present a range of Maths programs that aim to develop our students into numerate, risk taking, problem solving learners. We endeavour to give our students the best possible chance to become life-long learners and apply positive attitudes and knowledge throughout their lives.
All Mathematics lessons are based on the Victorian Curriculum, with student entry points identified through data and assessment. Mathematics classes at Black Hill Primary School follow our agreed Instructional Model.
At Black Hill Primary School, we teach a minimum of five hours of Mathematics a week. There may be times when this may not look like one hour a day. There will be a mix of learning and teaching styles and groups within the week.
Assessment in Mathematics at BHPS will take many forms including, but not limited to: note taking, observations, capturing photos, collecting work samples and Essential Assessment.
Teacher notes will reflect students’ levels for:
- Number and Algebra
- Measurement and Geometry
- Statistics and Probability
